A couple of friends and I were discussing this last night. The debate was "If you were made King for a day, and you could do just one thing every day, what would be your first action as global ruler and why?"

Our debate went long into the night, trying to discover the first step that would allow for the creation of greater possibilities with each successive day..we ranked all of the challenges of mankind in order..working backwards from the survival of the species..imagining what might need to be done first to make that an absolute certainty, for we felt this would need to be a part of the first order of highest priority. We broke the problem down backwards arguing about what would have to be done if this were our first objective "Eternal life of the species on Earth". We argued if this should be the ultimate highest goal of mankind, and counter argued this against what Heaven must be and how all things must be and act in order to remain.

Finally after much consideration and counsel, with a view to creating global harmony amoungst all religions, aligned behind an agreeable common goal, in a challenge that affects us all in a global way that requires the creation of base level harmony in the self interest, seeking to overcome the greatest of challenges first so that all others become easier..and all of the other things a wise leader would be expected to consider and offer a logical best reply to, we concluded that the best possible first act would be the following.

A request made to the new Pope asking clarification of the point "man has dominion" determine its full scope and intent.

Initially this came as a surprise to our group and so we asked why.

The answer : Because many of those who seek to destroy the world use this clause as their defence of their moral high ground. When asked "What is you motive for destroying forests..some admit to personal greed..some say we must to provide resources to the poor and the hungry and others claim it as their right..this world is to do with as we wish" For so long as this defence remains unchallenged by the church all men of the Christian faith will have an ultimate justification for their destructive actions and it would seem that this contravenes the true spirit of the Bible. As a consequence of this paragraph being used to defend all manner of ecology and life destroying actions pursued primarily for the purposes of personal gain in the present and denying all future generations of its enduring benefits a final clarification is required. The question, in a brief letter to the Pope would simply be : I would like a ruling..one way or another..from the Pope as to what the phrases which relate to "dominion" actually mean, refer to and intend to include.

Perhaps I am wrong, perhaps there is another first best step to harmonise the highest ideals of all men, creating a benchmark of intent which all future actions can be measured against to see if they align with the highest common goal.

Then came the issue of what to do on the second day if indeed the first had been a success. If it were me I would hold a concert, featuring 3 7 peace bands, formed with the finest musicians from each of the religions so that the world could see for themselves that harmony amoungst us all was still a possibility...and still our desire to create.

This is a movie being filmed in an around Port Douglas Australia at the moment as a fundraiser to save the worlds oldest rainforest about to be screwed by the property developers..or at least it would be if I were rich and or famous.

Let me give you the lead in background just to clue you in and then I will post things as they happen. There is this guy right by the name of Clapstyx..he has a split personality divided in half and then in half again..or is it 4 ways..I cant remember! First there is Denis Clapstyx stuck in the body of a Guitar player named Daryl they kind of duel for supremacy..in the body of an ordinary man that is confused about what he should do as an ordinary man. This guys name is Brian.

Anyway enough of the psycho babble. Brian is on a personal mission to impress some girl and make something of his life. Sure he has worked as a corporate analyst and a computer nerd, lowdown shitkicker and cattle herder but none of it gave him a sense that this was anything worth really putting his soul into.

Now this girl he is on with at the time, smart good looking, good sense of family virtues, understood the importance of giving children strong names to live up to (all that stuff), father owned a gold mine!, just finishing her law degree is always nagging Daryl to pay her a compliment which he does do from time to time without much enthusiasm..afraid to be wrong like any normal guy. Anyway cut a long story short she doesnt seem to be as inspired by him as he is by her.

A kind of cross roads point arises where the two concepts collide at an intersection in his life and he finds himself defining what he would ideally like to see happen in his life..the kind of things that if they could happen..things that if they did happen you would say.."absolutely the best thing ever that happened to me..in fact I cant think of anything greater". He starts to think in terms of absolute superlatives..since they are ideals..absolute ideals..they are meant to be as high as you can possibly imagine..thats the definition of an ideal after all.

So he imagines the greatest compliment that he could ever pay this woman that he met by fluke and pure chance..(and then had second thoughts that it was somebody else that he was yet to meet and was equally trying to impress)..this bit is yet to be scripted so I will update you on that as real life plays out..it could be one of several characters.

To cut that part shorter he decides to save the world and start by saving the worlds first flowering fruit tree. seemingly these things should ideally be done..and no one seemed to be doing them..and preferring to be original at all times and a bit bored at the time..he thought he would give it a go.

The opening scene see's Brian working out his ideals and the strategy for completion on his fridge with a white board marker. He is beginning to regain consciousness with every momentary observation of his own existence. He has reached for the copy paper..found it has run out..wonders if it might ever really run out in a global sense..realises at this rate of consumption it probably will..makes a note on the fridge about reinventing paper..(and whats the meaning of a sandfly who knows where that thought came from) and the whole exercise results in him creating a formula for infinity minus one (simultaneously proving his own ability to himself and expanding the size of his imagination at the same time) he then uses this to complete an advanced compound probability equation (which he feels like he had worked on once before) which explains the simbiotic probability success enhancement of various rainforest species when sharing the same existence space and converts this into a multi path probability enhancement goal completion model..which looks kind of like a neural network..but is really just modelled on the logic of the flower.

To see a heaven in a wild flower, and a world on a grain of sand, to see my world in such disrepair, and not one single person understands.

Anyway saving the world is a bit tough right off the bat. After all who knows if the theory even works..that you can take a highly improbable outcome and increase the chances of it occurring just by creating different ways for it to occur and not deliberately closing off the possibility...creating multiple solution paths to the same final outcome and its pre requisites..mutiply the total number of possible ways something desireable might occur and trying to meet all the pre-requisites in no particular order as you go. (if the world was a jigsaw puzzle..how would you put the pieces into place ?..any order would surely do..so long as they all end up there at the same time). Ideally creating simbiotic cross promotional links as you go..sorry too nerdy hey..pay your $10.00 watch the movie, know that all proceeds go to save the Daintree..a world heritage area with a new commercial and residential subdivision in it that nobody has the faintest idea how to avoid..and you will get the picture and do something good for the world at the same time.

So anyway this movie character sets off to save the Daintree..the worlds oldest forest..representing the complete history of the development of life on Earth..from the first flower designs (perfume only..petals were a later improvement..by design or by pure evolutionary fluke..take you pick either way they are significant)..the worlds first songbird..still heard practicing on a daily basis..and all that other stuff that if you could take out of the destructive path of progress you would.

The first things he decides to do is invent erasable photocopy paper..knowing that the product might have a future global market..big enough to create a royalty stream to preserve the forest..and at the same time save other forests around the world by giving every sheet the ability to be used more than once and creating an income stream to fund revegetation projects featuring fruit trees in impoverished communities where good quality and nutritious fresh fruits are unavailable.

Anyway so there is this movie character going about his daily life making a mundane living, listening to what people say about the weather, and trying to work out what the hell he is going to do about it if it is true that oceanic acidity is doubling killing off the sensitive plankton at the bottom of the food chain and potentially the worlds first marine life form the algae called ??..meaning therefore that if the simbiotic linkage which created the possibility of human life as we know it were to be broken..all that relied on everything that came before would be lost...potentially..only a species with a singular cross reliance to itself could survive.

So with saving the world on his mind, something highly unlikely, hopefully possible..needing some compund probability treatment. If the goal of every person on the planet was to fill the atmosphere with CO2 .. an outside observer would think that we were doing it as fast as possible..and would presume that this must be the objective of man.

The character decides that his own best chance is to create a common goal with others and use the combined imagination and desire of all who pursue that common goal. In the movie he tests the theory by seeing if its possible to come up with enough potential ways to save a rainforest, as a kind of experiment to see if it might be possible to save the world the same way.

Then he invents the solar powered engine which takes a volatile light sensitive petrochemical by-product..places it in a piston chamber..and watches it expand and contract in the presence and absence of light..powered by both light and dark..using light as a trigger for a reversible reaction which first sees liquid convert to a gas expanding as it goes and then condensing again to a liquid creating a vacuum as it collapses. How much would a company pay to own this idea..if it were found to work..creating enough excess power to run its own light source ?

Send me any of the problems which humanity faces, and I will post in my reply a workable solution high up the scale of absolutely ideal. Your challenge is to come up with a better solution that is more ideal in some sense (easier to implement, lower cost, less environmental impact, greater participatation, greater load sharing, less displacement of other interests, greater harmonisation between differences such as religions etc etc (all the other things that go to defining something as slightly better rather than slightly worse..slightly more likley to succeed as against slightly more likley to fail and ultimately judged on the grounds of whether it opens up greater future possibilities or not..if a tied disagreement situation arises).

I challenge myself by stating to you that I will imagine a solution for EVERY problem you post in this reply based on my own highest standards of virtue and excellence (ie I could live with it myself)..YOUR CHALLENGE is to imagine a solution that is better..but please give me the right of reply to adjust my answer..I shall do the same for you..

Now before you dismiss this as a silly post imagine the possibilities if more than a few people participate..with everybody pursuing the most ideal solution..

For me this represents the board on which the greatest human challenge can be played out upon. For it is here as a simple man I am asked to accept the challenges of humanity. There will almost certainly be some challenge I cannot overcome and find a path to its solution..but hopefully someone will stand in on my behalf if I should begin to falter lol

Lets work this like a game of chess. You submit to me any global problem (leave poverty for now for I believe it shall now be solved of its own volition). I shall reply with an answer within one week (or fail the test and drop out of the challenge). I can only be saved and kept in the competition if someone saves me with a solution on my behalf. You will then have a maximum of one week to come up with a better idea. If it is better (we need a TIG project that allows "watchers" to vote on the two choices) I shall then have one week to improve my submission..this may include parts of my original answer and also parts of yours to compile a more ideal solution..you may do the same until a reply answer fails. Each player shall have one second chance ie put your answer to the test..it fails at the vote..so you can resubmit once.

So..is there anyone out there who is prepared to accept the challenge ?

If there is then let me know..we will see if anyone here at TIG can set up a kind of forum link that makes the state of play easier to follow. Who knows maybe even some world leaders will put their best solutions on the line and to the test once we have gotten ourselves organised.

The rise of synthetic chemicals (especially sweeteners such as Neotame which is 30,000 times stronger than sugar by volume) are being used by an increasing number of food manufactures as a cheaper ingredient alternative, often promoted as "healthy". By using a synthesised industrial input rather the organic "original" ingredient. Industries, such as sugar cane production, which several of the poorer nations participate in, are being decimated with no possibility of restructing supply for synthetics. Is there no way that governments can ban synthetic foodstuffs and give/create an honest "by product of the legistlation" assistence to these countries. Apart from the fact that sugar cane production is essential for the emerging biofuels industry (likely to be important if fossil fuels cant clean up their act in a hurry) it seems ridiculous that the consumer of products from soft drinks to biscuits should be ripped off with imitation food. Once the sugar industry collapses the infrastructure costs of re-establishing it for any biofuels future will be too great for many communities to invest in further disenfranchising them from the revenue stream. A ban on synthetic sweeteners seems to be the best way to help correct the world sugar market inequality caused by the massive American subsidies for this product which has driven the price for sugar below the cost of production in almost all countries, thereby playing into the hands of those who would like to see a reliance on petroleum based products.
